Okay, so I told you I'd share the story. However, we have learned that the stories at our house never seem to end. So, here it goes.
Sunday night I made some cupcakes to take to some friends. They were red velvet and really yummy. A perfect ending to our Hawaiian haystacks we had for dinner. Logan had a rough night Sunday but in all of our parenting expertise, when Logan woke up (well, semi-woke up) cry and mumbling something about his body hurting, we didn't see anything wrong and told him to go back to sleep. In our defense, he was wearing footie pajamas and we were all only semi conscious. Anyway, woke up Monday morning, ate breakfast, went to get the kids dressed and found Logan looking like this.

That's right my friends, hives, everywhere! I flipped out! He was supposed to have surgery on Tuesday! I called the doctor and got him in that morning. So, at the appointment I had 3 coughing (that's right, he also had a pretty bad cough/cold) kids (we still had Matthew) one of which had a nasty rash and hives all over his body (he was hurting by this point) and he was supposed to have surgery the next morning! I'm sure I looked like I was needing to be admitted myself (I was starting to come down with the same cold). ** Note, he was not as happy as the pictures show about this and these pictures were in the beginning and don't really do it justice.**
She said she thought it was an allergic reaction to something he ate, what, we don't know. Apparently, kids can develop allergic reactions to foods they've had before. Along with that, she checked his ears and guess what, more ear infections! She warned us that they may try to postpone the surgery until his ear heals. Great! So, we go to get some Benedryl and on the way there all 3 kids fall asleep and you can't drive through the pharmacy for over the counter stuff. I wake them all up and we go grab our Benedryl and I drag them out crying. See, at the grocery store, to get to the pharmacy you have to walk past the little horse he likes to ride for a penny. If I looked bad before, I can't imagine what the grocery store workers were thinking now!
We came home, SLEPT, played, had dinner, said our bye's to Trent and Matthew and tried to settle down for the night. Yeah right. Regardless of how much Benedryl he had (don't worry, within the limits) the hives got worse and so did his discomfort and fever. At this point we didn't know if we were going to have surgery or not. None of us slept very well that night. Tuesday morning they looked just as bad as Monday night but we packed up and went to the hospital anyway. It is amazing how an oatmeal bath made him feel so much better! After hesitation from every nurse, nurse practitioner and staff member, the surgeon and anathesiologist gave us the go ahead! We knew recovery would be ABSOLUTELY miserable for him but better now than later.
Surgery went great. Seth didn't get there until they let us go back while he was waking up. They let me hold him while they put him out. So sad. I wanted to cry. But, like I said, all went well. The steriods they gave him to help with swelling took the rash away and it has not returned since. He was a very polite patient and we were all so exicted to come home! Children's is amazing! They were so good to us there!
He's had some really rough days but I think we are over the getting worse before it gets better part. As long as he has his Tylenol he does pretty good! Hooray for modern medicine! I told you it was a story! No exaggeration either. Poor little guy! He's been through a lot these past few weeks but is starting to be himself again. Its so nice to have our little boy back and feeling better!
